Statue of Liberty National Monument
Collections Relocation
During life and safety renovations in 2011 at the Statue of Liberty National Monument, ELY packed the museum collection on Liberty Island and moved it to museum storage on Ellis Island. This work required very high security conditions as the artifacts were on display in the museum within the pedestal of Lady Liberty, and logistics involved transportation of artifacts via ferry boats between the islands. ELY packed all objects to National Park Service standards for storage, and returned the artifacts to the museum and reinstalled them in the exhibit space once the renovations were completed.
